Small Space Design Solutions: Staircases and More

As an advocate of the tiny house movement and a lover of interior design, I love seeing design ideas for small spaces. I especially love the innovative ideas surrounding stairways that are made for small areas – from antique ladders to modern metal spirals, I love them all. Over the years, I have lived in countless tiny, urban flats, and I have decorated them all. In this blog, I hope to share what I have learned over the years. I hope to show you how to maximise your space. Although I plan to focus on staircases, I may include posts that focus on other aspects of designing and decorating small spaces as well, and I hope you enjoy and learn from them all. Cheers!

What Are the Benefits of Commercial Hydrocarbon Refrigerators?

by Willie Caldwell

When you look at new commercial refrigeration units, you should think about the type of refrigerant gases they use. Rather than choosing units that use regular refrigerants, you can buy products that use hydrocarbons instead. What are the advantages of using hydrocarbon as a refrigerant?

Get More Cost-Effective Refrigerators

While regular refrigerants do an effective job, they can increase running costs. They can also affect the working life of a unit. If units cost more to run and have a shorter lifespan, then you have to question whether they are a worthwhile investment.

If you buy refrigerators that run on hydrocarbon refrigerants, then you save money in a couple of ways. For a start, hydrocarbons absorb heat faster than regular refrigerants. They keep the unit cool more efficiently.

This extra heat absorption means that a unit doesn't need to use as much energy to maintain the right cooling temperature. Fridges also have a faster recovery time when doors have been opened and closed. Again, this reduces their energy consumption. So, hydrocarbon units could reduce your power costs.

Hydrocarbons also don't need as much pressure to work as other refrigerants. This helps them put less stress on parts, such as compressors. Your units will have an easier life and will last longer before they need repairs or replacement.

Get Environmentally-Friendly Refrigeration

Traditional refrigerant gases aren't good for the environment. They are often classified as having a high Global Warming Potential (GWP). This means that they are harmful to the environment. For example, if chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) leak out of a refrigerator and enter the environment, then they can damage the ozone layer.

Hydrocarbons are better for the environment. If this kind of refrigerant were to leak, it wouldn't cause the same levels of damage. It has a much lower GWP than the norm and has less of a negative effect on the ozone layer. It is relatively safe compared to other refrigerants.

Plus, hydrocarbon refrigerators help the environment by being more energy-efficient. They need less power to run, so they don't deplete energy supplies as much. The fact that hydrocarbons put less stress on a unit's compressor also means that the compressor won't release as much excess heat or make as much noise. Cooler and quieter units have localised environmental benefits for people who work in busy commercial kitchens.
